Bruce Hornsby, the Charlotte Ballet and the Rosen-Schaffel Competition to be Part of An Appalachian Summer Festival This Week

An Appalachian Summer Festival is in its 5th week of performances. This weekend doesn’t fail to disappoint with an equally exciting line up of artistic entertainment to hit the Appalachian State stage.

 

Tomorrow, June 21th, Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers will be performing in the Schaeffer center. Bruce Hornsby is a Grammy award winning  singer/pianist/composer/bandleader who enjoys drawing inspiration from the American music traditions. Hornsby  will be performing  many style of influential genres of music such as pop, jazz, bluegrass and country with his long time band, the Noisemakers. The performance will be at 8 p.m. and tickets are $45 for adults and $30 for student/child.

Saturday, July 29th, the Charlotte Ballet will be taking to the stage. The ballet was founded in 1970 and since crafted a reputation for delivering strong dancers and an exciting show whether that be classic or bold ballet styles. The ballet will be performing the wedding scene from Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux’s Sleeping Beauty as well as a pas de deux from George Balanchine’s Stars and Stripes. There will also be two masterworks that are sure to impress. The ballet will be at 8 p.m. and adult tickets for the performance are $35 and student/child tickets are $25.

For those looking to find a free activity to do this Sunday, look no further than the Rosen-Schaffel competition for Young and Emerging Artist which will be held in the Schaefer Center. Come out to be part of the final round of the competition which eight participants have been selected of the many who entered to compete for the top three prize spots.The highly acclaimed competition is in its seventh season where participants will compete in a public performances where the top three spots will be decided by the jurors but the audience will select an audience choice award winner. The first prize winner of the competition will receive the opportunity to perform with conductor Gerald Schwarz and the Eastern Festival Orchestra in next year’s Summer Festival as well as a cash prize. The competition starts at 1 p.m.
