Nov. 26, 2014. Linemen with Blue Ridge Electric Membership Corporation are responding to outages this morning primarily in Ashe County but scattered across its service area also in Watauga, Alleghany, Wilkes and Caldwell counties.
The primary cause is heavy, wet snow falling off power lines and causing the lines to “slap together.” Additionally, in several locations, power lines are down so members are advised to stay far away since downed lines can still be energized and therefore dangerous or even deadly.
Currently (as of noon on Wednesday) linemen are restoring 269 members in Ashe County; 94 in Alleghany County; 58 in Watauga County; 34 in Caldwell County and one in Wilkes County. This compares to only 40 or so outages in Ashe County earlier this morning.
Members should report all outages to the cooperative’s PowerLine at: 1-800-448-2383.
