Producers of “Horn in the West” enjoyed great success this 2015 season. According to recently released figures by Southern Appalachian Historical Association (SAHA), attendance was up 14% as compared to 2014.
Al Ernest, the association’s board chair, said, “The run of the show saw only two rainouts. This has been one of the more successful seasons in recent years.”
Employed in the operation and production were several people associated with Appalachian State University: three faculty members, two staff members, 11 students, and nine alumni. In addition, 13 students from Lees-McRae or other colleges and universities came to Boone for the summer to work in the show.
“As evidenced by its 2015 and fourth consecutive year TripAdvisor Award of Excellence, ’Horn in the West’ has a very good reputation,” Al Ernest said. “The show drew people from all over the southeast and as far away as Texas. We even had visitors who live in Denmark this season.”
SAHA is already making plans for next year’s season, which will be its 65th. Ernest says he anticipates larger crowds in 2016 because of the anniversary event.
Southern Appalachian Historical Association celebrates and preserves the diverse cultural heritage of the Blue Ridge Mountain region. Centered around Daniel Boone and the fight for American Independence, SAHA engages individuals through historical education and cultural entertainment.
