Three of the properties border the New River.

In previous meetings, the Boone Town Council has directed town staff to keep an eye open for potential recreation lands that it could purchase in order to preserve green space. On Wednesday, most of town staff and the Boone Town Council were attending retreats prior to budget season and were unavailable to talk on Wednesday afternoon.

About a year ago in closed session, the Boone Town Council discussed purchasing land atop Howard’s Knob, which might have included the famous climbing boulders, according to former Mayor Andy Ball at the time. This 70-acre property is still on the market for $3.8 million.
