Nov. 21, 2014. After working as the manager for the Town of Boone for the past 23 years, Greg Young is ready to go fishing.
The Boone Town Council and staff members thanked Young for his service and presented him with a plaque at a council meeting on Thursday evening. His retirement is effective at the end of the year.
“We are so appreciative of you and your talents, character, integrity and service that you brought to your work with the Town of Boone over these last years,” Mayor Andy Ball said. “We couldn’t be where we are today without you.”
Wishing him luck in his next chapter of life, Council Member Lynne Mason said, “We’ve been on this ride for a long time. I thank you for your many years of service, mentorship and advisement and not only to me but to all the council and leadership to the town.”
Town Attorney Sam Furgiuele added, “I guess I learned about one percent of the law I know in law school. I learned about 10 percent in the first 25 years of practice, and the rest I learned from Greg Young. He says he’s not a lawyer, but he sure knows a lot about law.”
And John Ward, the new town manager, thanked Young for the smooth transition.
Young then thanked current and past mayors, council members, citizens and particularly the dedicated and hardworking staff, which Young said “made my life a lot easier.”
“It’s been my honor and privilege to serve and I do appreciate it,” Young said.
