Boone Town Council Appoints Quint David To Serve Remainder of Teague’s Term on Council

By Jesse Wood

In a 3-1 preference vote, the Boone Town Council appointed Quint David to fill the vacant seat on the Boone Town Council created when Jennifer Teague resigned earlier this summer because of an out-of-town move.

Three individuals – Quint David, Marshall Ashcraft and Connie Ulmer – applied for the position, which calls for serving the remaining four months of Teague’s term. While Loretta Clawson nominated Ulmer, a retired Appalachian State professor, citing Ulmer’s desire to preserve town neighborhoods, the other three council members voted for David.

David previously served on the council from December 2013 to December 2015. He also currently serves on the AppalCART board and the town’s Sustainability, Economics and Environment Committee.

“This is hard. We have three wonderful candidates I feel like right now, and a wide group up for election in November,” Councilwoman Charlotte Mizelle said. “Quint does bring experience for the council to be able to slide right in for three months and do the job. He has a strong engineering background and is clearly devoted to town committees because he’s everywhere.”

David was sworn into office at the end of the Aug. 17 council meeting.

For Ashcraft, who retired last year from Watauga County Schools, and Ulmer, they will have another shot at serving on the board because of the upcoming municipal election. Along with those two, Jill Reeves, owner of Appalachian Antiques, Sam Furgiuele, former town attorney, and David are council candidates during the 2017 municipal election.

Jeannine Underdown-Collins and Charlotte Mizelle are running as incumbents.
