Boone Police Respond to Suicidal Man with a Knife

On Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 10:10 a.m., Boone Police responded to the parking lot of 1469 W King Street for a report of a man armed with a knife threatening to harm himself. Officers made contact with the man and began crisis intervention steps in an attempt to calm him.

Additional officers evacuated nearby residences. After approximately one hour the man was taken into custody and transported to Watauga Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. The man did suffer a minor self-inflicted laceration.

The identity of the man is not being released.
