Boone Police Officers, Watauga Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Suspect for Nearly Year-Old Rite Aid Robbery

Sept. 26, 2013. On Sept. 25, Wesley Alan Cox, 20, of Deep Gap, NC, was arrested for felonious robbery with a dangerous weapon and misdemeanor failure to appear in court. On January 2, 2013, the Boone Police Department responded to investigate a robbery at Rite Aid Pharmacy on Shadowline Drive.

During this incident the suspect demanded pills from the pharmacy using the threat of a gun. During the investigation, forensic evidence was discovered that linked Cox to the robbery. Detective Osborne obtained arrest warrants for the robbery on Sept. 18; however, Cox could not be located. Officers received information that Cox was actively hiding to avoid arrest.

On Sept. 25, deputies from the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office were instrumental in tracking down Cox. Deputies discovered him hiding in a residence on Knowles Haven Lane in Boone, underneath a pile of clothing in a closet.

“We are grateful to the agencies that assisted us in solving this case. Our detectives did a great job processing the crime scene, and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations used what we sent them to link Cox, who was already a suspect, to this crime. Although we suspected Cox, we just couldn’t prove it without the help of the state lab. Cox will likely face new charges for additional felony crimes in the near future that are still under investigation,” said Lt. Chris Hatton of the Boone Police Department.

Mr. Cox was placed under a $100,000 secured bond pending an October 31, 2013 court appearance.

Yesterday, Cox was also charged with the theft of a firearm from Grashal Outdoors

And in February, Cox was also charged with a robbery involving the theft of firearms at a business on Shadowline Drive.
