Boone Police Department Organizes Food Drive To Help People in Need, Drive for H&H Coalition Ends Jan. 3

Boone Police DepartmentDec. 5, 2013. The Boone Police Department is organizing a food drive to help people in need in our area.  The food collected during this drive will be donated to the Hunger & Health Coalition in Boone for distribution. The dates for this event are Dec. 2, 2013, thru Jan. 3, 2014.

The Hunger & Health Coalition organization collects, organizes and distributes food, medication, clothing and firewood to needy families in our area. Please take the time to review the attached Hunger & Health Coalition Annual Report.  The Hunger & Health Coalition feeds over 1,600 children and 1,000 elderly people every month in the Boone area.  We believe this organization is doing something wonderful for our community and we want to help them.

“Our economy has been cruel to many people all over America.  Many people in our local communities are hurting today.  Unemployment, underemployment and the ever-increasing price of goods is causing many good people to choose between their basic needs,” said Lt. Chris Hatton.

We are asking for the public’s help in this effort. Anyone could help by simply donating food during this food drive.  Any non-perishable food is accepted; however, there are a few items that the Hunger & Health Coalition seems to always find to be in short supply.

The following items would very much appreciated:

  • peanut butter
  • grape jelly
  • breakfast cereal
  • Chef Boyardee-type canned pasta

Law enforcement is requesting that you drop any donated items off at the Boone Police Department’s front lobby anytime before Jan. 3, 2014, so it can deliver the donated items to the Health & Hunger Coalition.
