Boone Police Department Begins Third Annual Food Drive, To Run Through January

The Boone Police Department is announcing its 3rd Annual Food Drive. The food drive will run through Friday, Jan. 30, 2016.

The food collected will go to benefit the Hunger & Health Coalition here in Boone. The Hunger & Health Coalition organization collects, organizes and distributes food, medication, clothing and firewood to needy families in our area. Last year the Hunger & Health Coalition gave out 11,664 boxes of food to 29,290 people. This total of people includes individuals and families in the Boone area.

“This annual food drive began three years ago. Our officers were looking for ways to help the less fortunate in our area, and the Hunger & Coalition requested a food drive to help them supply their food demand. We are involved because we believe in what this organization is doing and we want to help.” – Chris Hatton, Investigations Commander

“Maintaining relationships with our community members is crucial to the Boone Police Department. It’s a vital component for being an effective and successful law enforcement agency,” Chief Dana Crawford said.

If anyone would like to support this effort, they can help by donating money or food during this food drive. The Hunger and Health Coalition can use every $1 donated to buy $7 worth of food from our local food pantry.

Any non-perishable food is also gladly accepted; however, there are a few items that the Hunger & Health Coalition seems to always find to be in short supply. Both monetary and food donations are being accepted in the Boone Police Department lobby (Beside the US Post Office).

The following items would be very much appreciated:

  • Peanut butter
  • Grape jelly
  • Breakfast cereal
  • Chef Boyardee type canned pasta

If any other organizations, groups or individuals would like to join our efforts, please contact Lieutenant Chris Hatton with the Boone Police Department at 828-268-6942.
