Boone Police Announce 4th Annual Holiday Food and Funds Drive

The Boone Police Department is announcing its 4th Annual Holiday Food and Funds Drive. This charity drive will begin Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 and will continue until Friday, Jan. 13, 2017. The food and funds collected will go to benefit the Hunger & Health Coalition here in Boone.

BPD logoFor the past 35 years, the Hunger & Health Coalition has collected, organized and distributed food, medication, clothing and firewood to needy families in our area. Last year, this organization’s food pantry helped feed over 30,000 of our neighbors in crisis and their free pharmacy filled 14,352 prescriptions for people that can’t afford their life saving medications.

“This is the time of year when we all count our blessings and give thanks for what we have been given. Some people are not as blessed as others, so please join the Boone Police Department in doing our part to help those in need,” said Dana Crawford, Chief of Police.

The reason the Boone Police Department is hoping to raise funds this year is because the Hunger & Health Coalition can buy $5 worth of food for every $1 donated. This means that monetary gifts can do even more good than actual food donations. Many times, a monetary gift is more convenient for the donor.

If anyone would like to support this effort they can help by making donations to this food and funds drive. Any non-perishable food is gladly accepted. If any other organizations, groups or individuals would like to join our efforts, please contact Lieutenant Chris Hatton with the Boone Police Department at 828-268-6942.

All types of donations are being accepted in the Boone Police Department lobby The Boone Police Department is located between the Honda Dealership and the U.S. Post Office on Hwy 321.

“This annual food drive has been very successful in years past and we hope you will help us make it a success this year too. Our Officers are involved with the Hunger & Health Coalition year-round because we believe in what this organization is doing and we want to help,” said Chris Hatton, Investigations Commander.
