March 8, 2013. The Boone Police Department received a “suspicious incident” report at the 200 block of West King Street in the middle of the night on Friday at 12:54 a.m.
According to a Boone Police Department release, a female reported that a Hispanic male attempted to speak with the female in Spanish. The woman then ran to her apartment and reported that she heard footsteps following her. After making it safely to her apartment, the woman notified the Boone Police Department.
The caller described the subject has being approximately 5 foot 4 inches, heavy set and in his 30s. He was last seen wearing a red plain jacket and dark pants.
The 200 block of West King Street is in the vicinity of the rape of a 21-year-old ASU student reported to have happened on Feb. 24 in the 300 block of West King Street in between Earth Fare and Hamby Alley. The description of the suspect is also similar, too.
This is how the Feb. 24 incident was described by the Boone Police Department in a previous HCPress.com article:
The woman reported that she was walking alone in the vicinity of the 300 block of West King Street when a vehicle occupied by two Hispanic males stopped alongside to inquire if the victim was OK. The vehicle proceeded to drive away. A short time later, however, the victim reported that she was grabbed from behind, forced behind a building and sexually assaulted by a Hispanic male who was described as being short in stature with stocky/pudgy build.
In a release sent out Friday afternoon, the Boone Police Department noted the similarities in the two reports, but couldn’t confirm that one incident is related to the other.
“At this time it does not appear that a crime was committed; however, we wanted to make the members of our community aware of this situation after what occurred a few weeks ago. We cannot say that one incident is related to the other, but we do want people to be alert,” said Detective Kat Brackenridge with the Boone Police Department
Both incidents are currently under investigation by the Boone Police Department.
