Boone Green Drinks Hosts Their August Meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at Appalachian Mountain Brewery

Aug. 15, 2013. We’re back and we’re still green! Continuing our fifth year of social networking, Boone Green Drinks will meet on Aug. 20 at the Appalachian Mountain Brewery and we will be talking about three issues of local importance.

As mentioned at the last meeting, we will discuss how we can include some solar homes in the Home Tour that the High Country Home Builders Association is planning for Saturday, Oct. 5. Several campus clubs like Appalachian Solar Energy Society, the ASU European Solar Decathalon and the Student Homebuilders want to participate and all are invited to become involved. We will review some of our past efforts and look at how we can revise the program to include some solar houses and homes that meet high energy efficiency standards.

imgresIn addition, we thought it would be great to give a preview of the upcoming High Country Craft Food and Beverage Festival at the Broyhill Events Center on Saturday, Aug. 31. This is the 6th annual High Country Beer Fest and our own Appalachian Mountain Brewery will be represented at the festival. Sean Speigalman of AMB will have a few comments and we hope to have someone from the Board to talk about the festival as well. You are reminded that tickets are going fast so you may want to get some at Peabody’s before our meeting on the Aug. 20.

Also, a number of people are planning on attending the Watauga County Public Hearing for the proposed Business Park on N.C. 194 near Castleford Road. We are inviting them to come to Green Drinks afterwards and share their viewpoints and information.

So, we have sort of a long event planned, but you are welcome to come and go as you can and contribute where you can. After all, this is Green Drinks Boone, and we are open to your suggestions and perspectives over some great beer and light snacks. Bring something if you can and we hope to see you there.

The Tuesday evening event will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Appalachian Mountain Brewery (AMB) located at 163 Boone Creek Drive just down the street from the Employment Services Commission/Watauga County Career Center on Winkler’s Creek Road. AMB is one of our area’s newest Green businesses and we will also have an opportunity to learn more about their efforts in energy efficiency and renewables, community stewardship, wetlands restoration and sustainable agriculture.

This is your chance to become involved in Boone Green Drinks. We have a great schedule on tap for the summer and fall and will be meeting the third Tuesday of the month from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Appalachian Mountain Brewery for the foreseeable future. Quench your thirst for a sustainable Boone one sip at a time.
