Boone Film Festival is hosting its third annual festival this month. The festival showcases films from three different thematic categories: adventure, culture and environment. There is also a youth category for filmmakers 17 and under. There is an admission charge for the public.
This year, 31 films were selected from over 50 submissions across 15 states in the U.S. and 7 different countries to be screened at the Film Festival. These selections were made in September by a panel of 14 judges.
This, Film Festival will take place during the latter part of fall, unlike past years. The first event, a screening of “Shred America” at Boone Saloon, was on Friday, October 12th.
On October 30th, the events will continue with a free screening of the film “Hillbilly” from 6-8 p.m. at the I.G. Greer Theatre on Appalachian State University’s campus.
On November 1st, the best films from the youth category will be screened at the Ross Auditorium at Watauga High School; tickets will be sold through Mountain Alliance, a nonprofit organization that promotes youth leadership through service and adventure experiences. This event will feature 13 different films.
The best film in each category, including best youth film, will receive a $750 cash prize. The overall winner (“Best in Show”) will receive a $1,500 cash prize.
While deadlines for film submissions have passed, the Film Festival still encourages both filmmakers and those who enjoy film to attend events. Last year, over 600 people came to see the films that were screened.
