Boone Clean-Up Day on Saturday, Sept. 22, Offers Cash Prizes for Unusual Litter, Fall Litter Sweep Continues

By Jesse Wood

Sept. 17, 2012. The Town of Boone encourages all citizens and Adopt-A-Street/Stream organizations to take part in the Fall Litter Sweep, which continues until Sept. 29, and the Boone Clean-Up Day, which happens on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“[We are] hoping that you will join us during the Fall Litter Sweep and especially on … Boone Clean-Up Day to keep beautiful Boone an attractive place to live, work and play,” said Shannon Isaacs, the town’s community improvement officer, in a press release.

Participants may stop by the Town of Boone Public Works Center at 321 East King Street between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday to pick up vests, gloves and trash bags. Citizens may also make plans to pick up those items prior to Saturday.

From 12 to 1:30 p.m., citizens are also invited to stop by the Public Works Center for refreshments and to share stories of the day’s experiences.

The Town of Boone is also awarding cash prizes in the amounts of $100, $50 and $25 for those who find the most unusual litter on the roadside and streams within the town limits. To enter the contest, bring in the unusual litter between 12 and 2 p.m. on Saturday.

If you already have an adopted area and plan to participate during Boone Clean-Up Day, contact Isaacs, so the clean-up event is recorded as part of the required annual pickups.
