Blue Ridge Conservancy joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
Gifts to Blue Ridge Conservancy contribute towards it mission of working with willing landowners and local communities to permanently protect land and water resources with agricultural, ecological, cultural, recreational, and scenic value in northwest North Carolina.
For example, for every $1 donated in the last twelve months for operations, BRC leveraged $17 in direct support for land protection resulting in an investment of $6.5 million for:
Land Protection – the acquisition of 1,560 acres while monitoring and managing 180 conservation properties;
Public Access – the addition of publicly accessible land to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Grandfather Mountain State Park, Bullhead Mountain State Natural Area, Elk Knob State Park, the Creeper Trail Park in Ashe County, and the Middle Fork Greenway (a 7-mile path that will connect Boone and Blowing Rock);
Water Resources– the protection of the Foscoe Bog and providing access to the Watauga River at Guy Ford Road.
The return on your investment is the permanent protection of northwest North Carolina’s ridgelines, water resources, farmlands, and public recreational areas. One of our many dreams is to weave together protected lands through a series of trails, greenways, and paddle trails making our mountains and foothills one of the premier recreation areas in the country.
