During the month of March, the Watauga County Arts Council is leaving the dreary grays of winter behind and creating a colorful mood of peace and joy to help bring on the spring weather. Don’t miss its Second Saturday Art Celebration on March 12! The Main Gallery will feature the work of Joy Braverman-Smith, an artist, author, energy healer, forensic hypnosis therapist, metaphysician and certified Reiki master. In her words, “I dabble in the unique.” The Open Door Gallery will host an exhibition of the pottery of Tena Wenta.
Joy Braverman-Smith

The Main Gallery will feature the work of Joy Braverman-Smith, an artist, author, energy healer, forensic hypnosis therapist, metaphysician and certified Reiki master. In her words, “I dabble in the unique.”
After many years of exploring these other areas and even owning a large metaphysical bookstore in Florida, Joy began painting in the late 1990s and today she creates colorfully bright, cheerful paintings which she hopes have the effect of creating a sense of peace for the viewer.
Tena Wenta

The Open Door Gallery will host an exhibition of the pottery of Tena Wenta. This particular exhibit goes beyond the normal bowls, platters and cups, which are commonly thought of when one thinks of a pottery exhibit and stretches into setting a room ambiance with water, light and flowers. The sound of water flowing in a table top water fountain, the beauty of delicately colored flowers in a pottery container and the softness of dim light from an oil lamp or from one of a variety of candle-filled holders, all help to set a mood of relaxation and calm. The common thread among these pieces is a specialty glaze which Tena has developed and that she calls “Weathered Copper,” a patina green which is applied over complimentary shades of blue glaze.
Blue Ridge Art Space
The Serendipity Gallery will host a delightful exploration of the fine art of drawing, the very foundation of so many art forms, called “Let’s Draw.”
The Young Artist’s Gallery will feature the work of students of Rae Filsinger Boswell from Mabel and Parkway Elementary Schools.
The Second Saturday Celebration of the Arts will be held this month at the Blue Ridge ArtSpace, 377 Shadowline Drive in Boone, on Saturday, March 12 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. and will also include demonstrating artists sharing their talents in varied classrooms. It is a free event and light refreshments will be served.
