Blowing Rock’s Independence Day Celebrations: Closing out the Fourth of July Season on July 7th

By Elly Murray

To finish out the Fourth of July week, Blowing Rock will host its Fourth of July Festival and Parade in Downtown Blowing Rock on July 7th.

The events of the Festival actually begin on Friday, July 6, with a Park Dance in Memorial Park. The dance is from 6 to 8 p.m., and music is provided by the Summer Daze Band.

Then on Saturday, there will be an Adult Horseshoe Tournament at 9 a.m., and prizes will be awarded. Live music with Brian Collins will be provided in Memorial Park from noon until 1:30 p.m.

The parade kicks off at 2 p.m., and it promises to be an exciting time for all ages—although, the kiddos will be the most excited about the candy.

From 3 to 4 p.m., the Cockman Family will perform music in Memorial Park, and from 3:30 until 4:30, there will be park games for the kids! These include water balloon toss, watermelon eating contest, face painting and more. Prizes are awarded for first and second place in all games.

Finally, the Fourth of July celebration closes out with fireworks at the Blowing Rock Country Club. Roadside parking is permitted for this event, but parking on the golf course is not. The public is welcome at the Club for the special event, although you can see the fireworks from many places in town.

The Green Park Inn has an Independence Day Barbeque on Saturday as well, and you can see the Blowing Rock Country Club’s fireworks from the Green Park Inn. Attendance at the barbeque requires a reservation, however.

Be sure to check out the last Fourth of July event in the High Country, and spend a gorgeous Saturday afternoon celebrating our country with your family!
