Blowing Rock WinterFest Rotary Charity Chili Challenge Registration Due Jan. 17

Are you apart of a non-profit organization? Is your non-profit organization looking for an opportunity to raise awareness and funding? If you answered yes to both questions, The Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce would like to invite your non-profit to participate in their WinterFest Charity Chili Cookoff. The event takes place on Saturday, Jan. 27 in the Blowing Rock School Gym. Non-profits are invited to either curate five gallons of chili or partner with a restaurant in order to provide five gallons of chili. Event participants will donate to their favorite chili. The non-profit group with the highest amount of donations wins, however all will receive monetary donations and raise awareness. Setup begins at 10:30 a.m. The event will be open to the public from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event ticket price is $8 for adults (12 and up), $5 for kids (over age 5). The Lucky Ones bluegrass band will perform during the event.

The WFCCC is organized by The Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce and The Rotary Club of Blowing Rock. The non-profits keep all of their tip jar donations.

Now that we’ve caught your attention, you may be wondering how the event will work. So, below are the instructions and requirements of the event.

Instructions:
  1. Non-Profits- Either make your own chili OR partner with a restaurant and ask them to donate 5 gallons of chili to you. Restaurants – if you’d like to be paired with a non-profit, contact Loni Miller at the Blowing Rock Chamber of Commerce. loni@blowingrock.com (828) 295-7851.
  2. Bring the chili to the Blowing Rock School gym at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 27th, 2018. You can briefly park on the Morris Street side with your hazard lights on to quickly unload. Then park at First Baptist Church, or in any available public parking you can find.
  3. You will stand behind a table and serve the chili to attendees, alongside other non-profits while promoting your cause.
  4. Guests will “vote” for their favorite chili by placing donations in your donation jar, even though everyone wins due to the donations and raised awareness.
Requirements:
  1. Bring 5 gallons of chili, a warmer (Coleman stoves work well), and a ladle for serving (towels for drips are helpful too)
  2. Bring a big, empty donation jar (or box) for collecting donations
  3. Bring info about your organization to distribute to attendees
If your non-profit decides to partner with a restaurant, the Chamber recommends that the restaurant sends one person to serve chili and promote their restaurant (with menus or coupons); and that the nonprofit sends one person to promote your organization (with informational pamphlets, mailing list sign-up form, etc.) and educate others about the non-profit’s cause.

The Chamber is hoping to have 15-20 non-profit organizations represented at this event.

The Chamber will provide customers, eight foot tables with linens (plan on sharing an eight foot table with another non-profit), cups, spoons and napkins for tasting chili and volunteers from the Rotary Club to run the event and the cleanup process.
