April 9, 2012. The Blowing Rock Jazz Society (BRJS) presents its first concert of the 2012 season on Sunday, April 15, at the Meadowbrook Inn in Blowing Rock. The concert features both Appalachian State Jazz Ensemble I as well as a combo group.
The combo will open the concert with three or four selections, after which the big band will perform selections by the most prolific composers in jazz history. Selections by Thad Jones, Bob Brookmeyer, Bob Mintzer, Michael Brecker, Chick Corea and others will span a range from classics to contemporary. The ASU Jazz Band is under the direction of Todd Wright.
“I think we have a great season of concerts planned. And actually we probably have three or four new people [and groups] that we are introducing,” Fred Germann, founder and president of BRJS. “It should be great.”

Tickets are $20 for the general public, $5 for students and free for Jazz Society members. Annual memberships are available for $75.
