Jan. 22, 2013. The United Professional Horseman’s Association (UPHA) announced at its recent annual meeting that the 2012 Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show has been awarded the Chapter Honor Show Award for the 12th UPHA Region. This is the third consecutive year that the Blowing Rock Saddlebred Show has earned this award. The Annual Honor Show Awards are selected by UPHA members in the various regions, and only one show in the region is chosen each year.
The Blowing Rock Charity Horse Show began in 1923 and is among the oldest continuously operating horse shows in America. It has been held at its present site in Blowing Rock every summer since 1928.
Founded in 1968 and based in Lexington, Ky., the UPHA, is an association of professional horsemen and horsewomen who have united to improve the show horse industry and to define and clarify their professionalism within the industry. Since its inception, the UPHA has expanded into twenty regional chapters that comprise all fifty states and Canada.
Paul Boone, of Concord, NC, Chapter 12 Chair said: “Most of us have been showing Saddlebred horses at Blowing Rock for decades. The management and volunteers always go out of their way to accommodate us. The cool mountain climate gives us a break from the usual summer heat and the ambiance of the town and historic show grounds make it a favorite stop on our circuit.”
Susan Whittington, Saddlebred show chair said, “We are particularly proud of the Honor Show award. It is the highest possible compliment from the professionals whose efforts put quality competitors in the ring each year. We are honored to have been recognized with this award for three consecutive years, and we will continue our commitment to providing a showcase for Saddlebred horses that will always be worthy of this honor.”
The 2013 Blowing Rock Charity Horse Saddlebred Show will be held from June from June 6 through 9 at the Blowing Rock Equestrian Preserve in Blowing Rock, N.C.
