Blowing Rock Elementary School Ranked Eleventh in State in Recently Released Rankings by Online Company

By Jesse Wood

Dec. 1, 2014. In a recently released ranking of the best public elementary schools by an online company called Niche, Blowing Rock Elementary School ranked No. 11 in the state – behind 10 schools from the Chapel Hill-Carrboro area.

The company ranked 40,403 elementary schools across the nation based “on key student statistics and 4.6 million opinions from 280,000 students and parents.” Nearly 9,000 other elementary schools were graded but not ranked because of insufficient data. Niche notes that a high ranking generally indicates:

  • Students are very happy with their experiences in all aspects, especially academics, teachers and diversity;
  • The school is an exceptional academic institution in terms of teachers, students, resources for learning, and student outcomes;
  • The school is made up of a diverse population and fosters an accepting, positive school culture.

Blowing Rock Elementary School is consistently recognized by the state as an Honor School of Excellence, which is the highest possible rating under the NC school accountability system.

Among the other schools in the Watauga County Schools system, Hardin Park Elementary School in Boone ranked 36, Valle Crucis Elementary School ranked 51, Parkway Elementary School ranked 56 and Bethel Elementary School ranked 98.

Watauga High School ranked 78 in terms of best high schools in the state.

Watauga High School, which is the only high school in the county system, has consistently ranked among the top five school systems in the state as far as SAT scores go. For 2014, Watauga High School ranked second in the state for SAT scores. See those results that were announced in October here.
