Blowing Rock Community Foundation Celebrates 30 Years of Service and Support

The Blowing Rock Community Foundation reached an important milestone on Oct. 8 — 30 years of service and support to the Blowing Rock Community. Bill Burke’s dream of a foundation to support and enhance the Blowing Rock community and a contribution of $15 each by Bob Hess, Tony diSanti and Bill Burke has grown into the following:eca8be9b-94cd-4eb6-b1a2-9ca7b88fd61f

  • $493,000 – given in grants to various community agencies such as the Blowing Rock School, Blowing Rock Police, Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue, Boy and Girl Scouts, Robbins Municipal Pool Renovations, Blowing Rock Recreation – especially the renovations of the basketball courts, Blowing Rock Hospital and many, many more.
  • $498,000 – scholarships awarded to Blowing Rock students to help further their educational pursuits at two or four year institutions of higher education. To date over 90 students have received scholarships and approximately 94 percent have completed their degrees.
  • $2,600,000 – endowment established so that money will be available in perpetuity for both grants and scholarships.

The members of the Board of Directors have worked hard over the past thirty years to make sound fiscal decisions.  The Board has had three chairs:  Bill Burke, Bobby Ball, and the current chair Sandy Miller.  Their time, effort and commitment have helped make this organization flourish.

The real thanks, however, goes to the community, the Blowing Rock Country Club, and the many individuals who have contributed time, money and effort to make this Foundation a success.

The current board hosted a reception at the American Legion building on Thursday to celebrate past and present board members, grant and scholarship recipients and community members.
