Jan. 2, 2015. The Blowing Rock Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2014-2015 grants. The mission of the Foundation is to raise and award charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations, as well as scholarships which benefit the community of Blowing Rock.
The Foundation’s Board of Trustees annually approves all project grants and scholarships based on documented need and merit. The funds for the grants and scholarships are raised through “Community Foundation Days,” a series of events hosted each year, as well as through generous contributions.
The events include Game Day, Groovy Nights, and golf and tennis tournaments, and a grand total of $125,000 was raised at these events. Of that amount, $35,000 was allocated for grant distribution in 2014.
The Foundation proudly announces the following organizations as recipients of the 2014-2015 grants:
- Appalachian Healthcare Alliance
- Blowing Rock Appearance Advisory Commission
- Blowing Rock Arts and History Museum
- Blowing Rock C.A.R.E.S.
- Blowing Rock Community Library
- Blowing Rock Fire Department
- Blowing Rock Parks and Recreation (American Legion Building)
- Blowing Rock Police Department
- Blowing Rock School
- Blowing Rock School PTO (Playground)
- Community Care Clinic
- Ensemble Stage
- Hunger Coalition
- Watauga Youth Network
The Foundation also awards scholarships to honor Blowing Rock students attending institutions of higher education – community college, technical school or two/four year colleges and universities.
There are currently 23 students receiving Foundation scholarships. The Jane and Dan Wolfe Scholarship awards $15,000 to one deserving student, and the remaining scholarships award $2,000. These scholarships are available for eight semesters of undergraduate study, and recipients for 2014 were announced June 14, 2014.
