Blowing Rock Art and History Museum Presents Robert Morgan as Part of TAC Talks Series, July 13

On Thursday, July 13, from 6-7 p.m., Robert Morgan, renowned author of both fiction and non-fiction writings, will be speaking in an event titled “From the Wilderness Road to the Underground Railroad” at the Blowing Rock Art and History Museum.

“This event is part of our TAC Talks series, which stands for Thursday Arts and Culture,” Leila Weinstein, Educational Programs Coordinator for BRAHM, said. “Those talks happen once a month on Thursdays.”

This upcoming Thursday speech will cover American history and the impact that trails, roads and traces can have on a population. From the Wilderness Road, a trail created in 1775 by Daniel Boone and his cohorts, to the Underground Railroad, the most important route for the slave community in the south. Morgan will focus on talking about how these trails and routes have impacted society and the future of our nation.

“The speech will probably be around 45 minutes,” Weinstein said, “and there will be time afterwards for discussions and questions.”

Robert Morgan is an incredibly well known author whose books have been New York Times bestsellers and whose book, The Road from Gap Creek, received the Thomas Wolfe Memorial Literary Award in 2014.

“He spent a lot of time on his family’s farm here in the Blue Ridge,” Weinstein said, “and a lot of his books relate to the lifestyle, landscape and history here in this region of North Carolina.”

The speech is free for members of BRAHM and cost $5 for non-members.

On Sunday, July 16, at 4:00 p.m., BRAHM will be hosting Kevin Burke as part of its Summer Concert Series. Burke is one of the most well known traditional Irish fiddle players.

“This concert is a great opportunity to hear a world class musician in a small and intimate setting,” Weinstein said, “so we are super excited about that. “

Tickets for Burke’s concert can be purchased in advance here. Seating is first come, first serve the day of the concert, and tickets are non-refundable.
