The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum Offers a Weekend Full of Fun Events for the Family Oct. 10-12

Oct. 7, 2014. The Blowing Rock Art and History Museum will host a full weekend of events for the entire family beginning on Friday, Oct. 10, with a new exhibition opening. Following that, BRAHM will celebrate its third birthday with a birthday celebration on Saturday, Oct. 11 and the weekend will culminate on Sunday, Oct. 12 with the Alexander Arts Lecture.

“There will be something for everyone,” said Joann Mitchell, executive director of the BRAHM. The traditional toy exhibit Whimmy Diddles n’ Flipper Dingers: Toys of Appalachia, “will bring out the child in persons of all ages” and the birthday celebration promises to be a “family fun event for the whole community.”

The birthday events are free and include Celebration, a puppet show by the Elkland Art Center at 2:15 p.m., live music by the Harris Brothers from 3-4 p.m., activities and birthday cake. Admission to the museum will also be free on Saturday from 12-5 p.m.

For the finale, BRAHM will host the Third Alexander Art Lecture featuring Sarah Cash, Consulting Curator of the Department of American British Paintings in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. Cash, an expert in American art, will present her talk titled “Encouraging American Genius” and Other Tales from the Front. Admission to the event is $20 per person with a reception to follow.
