April 1, 2014. On Thursday, April 3, the Watauga County Public Library will be screening “State of Conflict: NC,” a documentary by Bill Moyers.

In this political film, Emmy award-winning investigative journalist and ordained Baptist minister Bill Moyers explores the impact of North Carolina politics steering to the right, answering  questions like: What makes North Carolina a battleground state? Who are the influencers in this political world, and why is it sparking civil disobedience in higher and higher numbers?

“State of Conflict: NC” examines the political battle in North Carolina and how it may reflect a similar state-by-state battle for control of American politics in the near future. The film is a must-see for Americans of all political affiliations.

Aside from his impressive career in journalism, Bill Moyers was a founding organizer and deputy director of the Peace Corps and served as assistant and secretary to Lyndon B. Johnson. As publisher of Newsday from 1967 to 1970, Moyers led the paper to two Pulitzer prizes. Moyers has received more than 30 Emmys in addition to numerous other awards and achievements.

Following both screenings will be a panel discussion moderated by Bob Phillips, Executive Director of NC Common Cause and with additional participation from Dr. Harvard Ayers, Professor Emeritus (Anthropology); Alice Saltstone, CEO of High Country Community Health Care; Dr. Matthew Robinson, Department of Government and Justice Studies and Dr. Bill Herring, retired physician.

Come out to be educated and involved in the political happenings and implications in both your state and  country this Thursday at Watauga County Public Library, 140 Queen Street in Boone. The event begins at 7 p.m. and both the documentary screening and panel discussion are free and open to the public.
