On Saturday, March 7, Crossnore First Baptist Church is hosting a benefit singing to support Mrs. Peyton Taylor Buchanan with her struggle with breast cancer. The show will begin at 7 p.m., and donations are encouraged.

Artists performing will be the Peace Makers, KC and The Elk Valley Boys, and Brooke and Darin Aldridge. Their style of music ranges from gospel singing to bluegrass jams. You can bet that their music will help all spirits be lifted.

When thinking about an ideal member of the Avery county community, Buchanan’s name might come to mind. As a loving wife and mother to five beautiful children, Buchanan tries to emulate goodness in the many things she does. She also works as a Hospice nurse, caring for individuals and their loved ones as they proceed through trying times.

However, in 2013, Buchanan was given bad news of her own; she was diagnosed with breast cancer. But Buchanan made a strong comeback, proving that hope and perseverance can truly shine through. She beat the cancer in May 2014 after many surgeries, hospital visits and treatments.

Sadly, Buchanan found out a few months ago that the cancer had metastasized and spread to her bones, lymph nodes and liver, causing stress on her already weak body. Therefore, her battle is currently in progress again.

As many may know, the costs of lengthy medical treatments are through the roof. Therefore, this benefit singing will be hosted in her honor, so that the High Country community might be able to help in alleviating a portion of her family’s financial burden. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated.

Buchanan’s childhood friend, Julie Cook, decided to hold this benefit in her honor because she knows first hand how debilitating serious illness can be.

“Nine years ago, I found out I had a blood clot on my brain, and I had a stroke. I had a benefit myself, and if the community hadn’t banded together to help me, everything would have been overwhelming to me. It was truly a blessing to me. I know Peyton will be overjoyed for every little bit of love,” Cook said.

There will also be T-shirts for sale at the event for $15.

Remember to come out and support a fellow High Country resident in need.
