Beech Mountain’s Annual Bikes, Brews ‘n’ Views Event A Huge Success, Thousands Turn Out for Weekend Event

by Madison V. Fisler

July 22, 2013. While Beech Mountain Resort’s Bikes, Brews ‘n’ Views has always been a great success, this year really knocked it out of the park despite a little drizzle for the three day weekend of fun.

Friday night started the weekend out strong with hundreds turning out at the resort to watch Melissa Reaves and Acoustic Syndicate take the stage.

On Saturday, thousands of visitors flocked to the resort for the famous and much-anticipated beer tasting and contest, where many breweries, both local and visiting, strutted their stuff. Guests received a voting token with the purchase of their tasting glass, and used their token to vote on which beer was their favorite. This year Blind Squirrel Brewery took home first prize, called the Mile High People’s Choice Award, earning the right to have their beer featured and showcased at the resort for the upcoming season.

“A lot of people enjoyed the beer contest,” said Talia Freeman of Beech Mountain Resort.

“This year was a little more laid back, with a big turnout of families. We are a very family oriented resort, so there was something for everyone this year.”

The resort even featured inflatables for the kids and special children’s activities from the Recreation Center.

Close to 170 riders turned out for the Monster Energy Race Series during the weekend. The race series featured two separate races, the dual slalom and the downhill race. There were multiple age groups for both competitions, with a top three contenders being chosen for each event.

“Almost all of our bikes were tied up during the weekend,” said Ryan Puckett, who runs the Magic Cycles satellite shop at Beech Mountain Resort.

“This event was huge for our shop, and for Beech Mountain. It’s a great place because there are eight trails with different difficulties, so people who aren’t as experienced have something safe to ride. There’s really something for everyone.”
