Looking for a fun Saturday night for the whole family? Starting June 25, the Beech Mountain Street Dances return for the summer! Hosted by the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce, these are completely free community events that take place Saturday evenings from 7-9 p.m. (see below for complete list of dates).
At the dances, an area right outside Town Hall is set up and bags of sand are spread out to create a soft dance floor. Local DJ Frank Steele plays a mix of music, from oldies and classic rock to ’80s and ’90s music, to appeal to different generations while remaining family-friendly. Baked goods are also sold at the dances, and it is BYOB for those who bring the appropriate containers and do so responsibly.
These street dances have been going on for at least a decade, maybe longer, said Lauren Mills, Events Coordinator at the Beech Mountain Chamber of Commerce. Many people simply mingle around and socialize with one another and not everyone dances, although many people do.
“It’s a very relaxed, very casual atmosphere,” Mills said. “Sort of as if you were going to a backyard cookout with the whole community.”
