Beech Mountain Resort hosted their annual Winterfest Beer Festival on Saturday at the Beech Tree Bar and Grille. Fourteen breweries were present offering over 50 ales and ciders that attendees were able to taste and enjoy. The event started at 4:00 with music by Unicorn Meat. The Asheville based band Dr. Bacon took the stage at 6:00 performing their danceable blend of funk, soul, jazz, rock, blues, folk, hip-hop that they described as “Appalachian Funk-Rock.” The 7 member band featured an array of instruments including guitars, resonator, harmonica, bass, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone drums, trombone, violin, pedal steel, mandolin, kazoo and more.
Talia Freeman, director of marketing at Beech Mountain Resort said their festival is unique to the High Country, because it is the only Winter Beer Festival. “Since we started our own brewery more than a year ago, we have taken a vested interest in the beer industry and we wanted to provide a unique event in the High Country.”
The attending breweries were pleased with the turnout that included a large segment folks from across the High Country. Talia Freeman reports it was a sold-out crowd doubling the attendance from last year.
