Beanstalk to Debut First Murder-Mystery Dinner Show, ‘Last Dance of Dr. Disco,’ Nov. 5-7

By Shannon Cuthrell

Dr. Disco, the driving character in Beanstalk Community Theatre’s newest show, has an evil plan to take over the world by inserting subliminal messages into disco music. If you attend, you get to be part of the plot.

“The Last Dance of Dr. Disco,” rated PG-13 for some adult humor, will be held nightly Nov. 5-7 at the Boone Golf Club. Dinner, starting at 6:30 p.m. and served by CR Catering, will include a variety of upscale pasta dishes.

“It’s James Bond meets Saturday Night Fever with a little Austin Powers thrown in,” said Amy Beane, the theatre’s creative director.

With improvisation and audience interaction involved, the characters will mingle with the audience prior to the show to help develop their characters before the scripted part of the show begins.

During dessert, there will be a clue hunt in which audience members will participate to determine who they believe to be the murderer.

Beane strongly encourages the audience “to join in the fun by dressing in their grooviest disco attire.”

Beanstalk Community Theatre has a history of providing opportunities for High Country community members to test out their skills either on or off stage.

“We always do a showstopper that incorporates children and adults in all sorts of roles,” Beane said.

The theatre offers two all-adult productions, one all-youth production and one mixed-cast large musical each season. This year, the season continues after “The Last Dance of Dr. Disco” with “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” Dec. 3-5, “The Foreigner” in the spring and “Disney’s Little Mermaid” in the summer.

“To see how our community has come together to make our shows a success is the heart of why community theatre is so important,” said Beane.

Tickets, $35 each, can be purchased at Andrea McDonough’s State Farm at 450 New Market Blvd., Ste. 1 in Boone, online at www.tinyrul.com/discoboone or at the door based on availability. Dinner is included in the ticket price and there will also be a cash bar.
