Beanstalk Community Theatre Presents Second Annual Christmas Production, ‘The One and Only Santa Claus,’

By Rebecca Mullins

Dec. 3, 2013. This December, Beanstalk Community Theatre presents the second annual all youth production, “The One and Only Santa Claus.”

The children have been preparing for this play since their auditions in September, and the time is nearly here when they will take to the stage for all to see. These young actors will dazzle you with their superb acting skills and witty humor in this one-of-a-kind play.

The production will premiere at the Harvest House Performing Arts Center located at 247 Boone Heights Drive. The show will run Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m., Friday Dec. 6 at 7 p.m., and Saturday Dec. 7 at 7 p.m.

1462982_709720305707561_1578355626_nTickets are $5 for students 18 and under, and $15 for adults.

Tickets can be purchased at the door the day of the production, or in advance at the office of the Executive Director, Andrea McDonough located at 450 New Market Boulevard Suite 1.

There will be a silent auction with gift cards to places such as Casa Rustica, Stick Boy and High Country Local First as well as gift baskets with themes such as kids, pets and date night.

Tickets for the silent auction will be sold during intermission and after each show. The winners of the silent auction will be contacted after the final showing on Saturday.

The play stars 38 youths ranging from ages 6-19 playing all sorts of characters, such as the witty talk show host Yule Tide, his sassy coworker Crystal Flakes and the friendly Christmas Courier Mary Christmas.

“This shows really different from what we’ve done before,” said Amy Beane, Creative Director of Beanstalk Community Theatre and Director of “The One and Only Santa Claus.”

There are 11 scenes in the production, with 8 commercials interspersed between the scenes.

“If youre in act 1 and you have a character speaking role, then in act 2 you might be in a commercial,” commented Beane. “Each scene is like a play within itself.”

This means that everyone gets an equal role in the spotlight. These kids have been practicing since September’s auditions, and their hard work is paying off.

“They’ve been off book for about a week already,” stated Beane.

That means these youth’s are reciting their lines without help of a manuscript weeks earlier than last year’s cast. It’s an impressive feat for any group of actors, regardless of age, but this group has it in the bag.

This particular play will knock anyone’s socks off as they watch these young performers strutting their stuff on the stage. Don’t miss this one of a kind Christmas play Dec. 5-7. Come on out and support our youth for their production, “The One and Only Santa Claus.”
