June 14, 2013. Saturday, June 15, will mark the beginning of the 2013 season for the Banner House Museum. The season will run throughout the summer and into the fall before coming to a close on Oct. 18.

Located at 7990 Hickory Nut Gap Road in Banner Elk, this historic 1865 era home has tours from 11 a.m. through 4 p.m. with the final tour of the day beginning at 3:30 p.m. The museum first opened up for tours in 2007.

2Admission to the Banner House Museum is $5 for adults and $1 for all children ages six and under. Members will receive admission free of charge.

The Banner House Museum allows visitors to have a unique look into the world of the past and experience 19th century life in Banner Elk. During the tours, which are led by volunteers, visitors can learn about history, culture and the development of the community.

“The museum is the original home of James and Sam Banner, built right after the Civil War,” said Phyllis Ciano, museum director.

“It is set up where you can learn area history and life as it was in the 1860s. We have a living room, kitchen and exhibiton room which now features a Civil War section, a section with Banner genealogy, the history of Edgar Tuff, A Lees-McRae exhibit and this year we are featuring an exhibit from the Grandfather Home for Children, which has a timeline of the home from when it was originally an orphanage and a photographic history.”

The Banner House is open for visitors during their season Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
