Banner Elk’s Christmas Parade Rolls Down Main Street Saturday Night Under A Full Moon

Under a full moon rising, hundreds of paradegoers lined Main Street in Banner Elk on Saturday night for this year’s Small Town Christmas Parade.  The weather was perfect and the crowds were enthusiastic as floats and cars decorated in Christmas lights made their way along the parade route where it ended in Tate-Evans Park.

Many along the parade route then made their way to the park where there was a tree lighting, mini-train rides through the lights and luminaries, Christmas music and most important for the kids, a chance to visit with Santa to tell him about their Christmas present wishes.

“Banner Elk at Christmas is like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting,” says Nancy Owen with the Town of Banner Elk. “All the local businesses and residents get involved.”

It was a full day of events in Banner Elk on Saturday with a 5k Reindeer run in the morning, breakfast with Santa, holiday treats and hot coca, ornament and cookie decorating and crafts at various businesses around town. The Ensemble Stage presented A Christmas Carol Radio Performance at the Old Banner Elk School Friday night – and again Sunday afternoon.

Banner Elk kicked off its Holiday Season in fine fashion with their Small Town Christmas Celebration.
