March 7, 2014. On Feb. 25, the Watauga County Sheriff’s Office of Criminal Investigation, received a report of an alleged inappropriate sexual relationship between a 17-year-old juvenile foster child and a foster parent in Watauga County.
The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, along with the Watauga County Department of Social Services (DSS), and the Children’s Advocacy Center of the Blue Ridge, conducted an investigation into the reported incident. Individuals were interviewed and as a result of the interviews and investigation the following individual was charged.
Jason Hatfield, 42, of 320 River Knoll Road in Banner Elk, was charged with six counts of Sexual Activity by a Substitute Parent. Hatfield was taken before a Watauga County Magistrate on March 3, 2014, and placed under a $50,000 bond. The court date for Hatfield is scheduled for April 30, 2014.
