The Banner Elk Café and Lodge Tavern will have its grand opening this Saturday, May 19. Owners Les and Cindy Broussard have been running the Banner Elk Café for the better part of 30 years. Every so often, they’ll see fit to add to their creation and the new additions have always been a success.

The newest addition to the restaurant is their in-house Tavern and Bar, which was created to address the problem of too little space. “We often times have lines for people waiting to eat with us and didn’t really have a place for them to wait, especially when it was cold outside,” Cindy said. She describes the new area as a place for friends and diners to meet and socialize before sitting down for dinner.

The Tavern has been long awaited by all who have visited the restaurant in the last year. The Broussards purchased the property that was on the corner in front of their restaurant last year, adding over 1500 square feet to it. They broke ground last spring but had to bring construction to a halt, to allow business to run smoothly through the busy summer season.

Finally, after many long, labor-intensive months, the Tavern has been completed and is open for business. The ribbon cutting and opening of the new Tavern will be at 11 a.m., and the bar will feature new specialty menu items, great local breweries and their select beers on tap, and a kind, welcoming atmosphere that is open to all.

Live music will also be held in the bar area throughout the day, beginning with Music on the Patio with Josh Perryman from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., followed by the Wolf Gang Band from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

In addition, the cafe will have a few special guests arriving for the ribbon cutting, including U.S. Representative Virginia Foxx, Mayor Brenda Lyerly, and a few other representatives of the High Country.

The Café is located at 324 Shawneehaw Ave S, and the Broussard family and the employees of the Café proudly invite locals and visitors to come enjoy a day of fun to celebrate the much-anticipated addition. For more information, please feel free to call them at (828)-898-4040.
