On Thursday afternoon, the Banner Elk Police Department closed the Bank of America branch on Main Street because of a suspicious package that was located in the bank.
Police Chief Kevin Hodges said that as a precautionary measure the State Bureau of Investigation was called to examine the package, which was found “inert or not dangerous.”
“We closed the bank around 2:30 p.m. and it was closed approximately for one hour,” Hodges said.
