Bachmeier of Wilkesboro Named Human Resources Director of Appalachian State University

Aug. 15, 2014. Mark D. Bachmeier of Wilkesboro has been named director of human resources at Appalachian State University. He will begin his duties Aug. 11.

Bachmeier has 12 years of experience in human resources leadership, including serving as deputy labor commissioner/interim labor commissioner and commissioner of labor for the state of North Dakota, and director of human resources and associate vice president/executive director for human relations strategy and operations with Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (WFUBMC).

He most recently was vice president for hospitality and support services at WFUBMC.

“Appalachian and its 1,200 permanent and temporary staff employees will be well served by Mark’s experience as a state labor commissioner and in employee relations, including employment law, compliance, dispute resolution, policy development and training,” said Chief of Staff Randy Edwards.

Bachmeier will oversee a comprehensive human resources program that includes: staff recruitment; wage and salary administration; benefits administration; employee relations; training and development programs; personnel policies; and human resources information systems. The position of human resources director reports to the chancellor.

Bachmeier has a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Minot State University and a master’s degree in sociology from Indiana University.
