Gloria Jean Coffey Creasy (Jan. 3, 1967 – March 24, 2015)

Gloria Jean Coffey Creasy, 48, of Greenlee Drive, Morganton, a former resident of Watauga County, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 24, 2015 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care in Lenoir.

Gloria was born Jan. 3, 1967 in Watauga County, a daughter of Helen Pearson Coffey and the late Floyd Bruce Coffey.

She is survived by her husband Steve Creasy of the home; two daughters, April Creasy and fiancé Eddie Parlier, and Ashley Creasy, all of Hudson; two sons, Steven Creasy, and Leonard Creasy and wife Tammy, all of Morganton; her mother, Helen Coffey of Hudson; three sisters, Barbara McCoy and husband Randy of Hudson, Wanda Brown of Lenoir, and Angela Dellinger of Hudson; and three brothers, Allen Coffey and wife Misty, Albert Coffey and wife Patty, and Wayne Coffey, all of Hudson. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Bruce Coffey.

Robert C. Winebarger (May 31, 1925 – March 23, 2015) 

Robert Clyde Winebarger was born on May 31, 1925 to Grady and Edna Pearl Winebarger in Boone, NC. He passed peacefully from this world and into the arms of his Savior on the morning of March 23, 2015, in the home he shared with his wife for over fifty years.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Mrs. Cora Pearl Winebarger; four children- Scott Winebarger, Ronnie Winebarger and wife Crystal, Tommy Winebarger, Susan Curtis and husband Allen; one sister- Clara Norris and husband Bobby Gene; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was a lifelong resident of Meat Camp in Watauga County. During his early life he worked in a lumber mill and then as a guard for The Manhattan Project in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He saw much of the country during the over forty years he spent as a long haul truck driver. Robert was an incredibly intelligent man who was largely self-educated. He had a quick wit and was always ready with a joke or story to share. Most of all he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Robert and the family were blessed to be served by Medi Home Hospice, Becky, Jennifer, Christy and Jimmy and Dr. Leslie Smith and her staff.

The family will receive friends from 10-11am, followed by his funeral service on March 25, 2015 at Austin and Barnes Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Jerry Moretz, Rev. Delmar James and Evangelist Judy Luster. Burial will follow in the Winebarger Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, though appreciated, memorials may be made to Medi Home Health and Hospice of Watauga County.

Mrs. Irene I. Pennell (July 17, 1927 – March 23, 2015)

Mrs. Irene Isaacs Pennell, 87, of Ed Williams Road, Zionville, passed away Monday, March morning 23, 2015 at her home. Born July 17, 1927 in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Lula Beech Isaacs. Irene was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She was retired from IRC/TRW.

She is survived by two sons; A. J. Pennell and Jerry Pennell and wife Jane all of Zionville, one grandson, Jerry Lee Pennell and wife Mandy, three great grandchildren, Mark, Matthew and Jenna Pennell all of Zionville, two brothers, J. C. Isaacs and wife Freida and Dean Isaacs and wife Mary Alice all of Zionville, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Edward Pennell, two grandsons, Mark and Jamie Pennell, and four brothers, Lawrence, Fred, Estel, and Raymond Isaacs, Jr.

Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Isaacs Pennell will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Brother Jerry Lee Pennell, Preacher David Ward and Rev. Derek Wilson. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday prior to the service from 2 o’clock until 3 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home. Reba Ellen South (April 23, 1950 – March 23, 2015)

Reba Puckett South, 64, of Elk Park passed away on March 23, 2015 at Brian Center of Spruce Pine.

A native of Avery County, she was born April 23, 1950 a daughter of the late William and Alice Gwyn Puckett.

Reba has left to cherish her memory her: husband, Clint South of the home; sons, Brian South and Shawn South both of Elk Park; brother, Lige Puckett and wife Brenda of Elk Park; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Reba Puckett South will be conducted on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 8:00 pm at the Grandfather Chapel with Rev. Bryan Griffith and Rev. Reed Callahan officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until the service hour. Family, friends and pallbearers will meet on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at the funeral home to go in procession to McGuire Cemetery for interment services.

Ralph Donald Huskins, 83 of Huntersville died March 21, 2015. He was born on Nov. 16, 1931 in McDowell County to the late Charlie and Florence Huskins. He served in the US Navy.

Survivors include his wife Patricia Ann Huskins; sons, Ralph Dana Huskins and girlfriend Cathy Davis of Asheville, Patrick Huskins and wife Lucy of Black Mountain and Vance Huskins and wife Nadia of Bordeaux, France; daughter, Connie Huskins Colvard and husband Philip of Newton; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and sister, Mildred Price of Dysartsville, NC.

Funeral services for Ralph Donald Huskins will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, March 24, 2015, at 2:00 o’clock in the chapel of James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Dr. Huntersville with Rev. Paul Turbedsky officiating. Graveside services and burial will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, at 1:00 o’clock, at the Huskins Family Home in Vilas.

The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon, from 1:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Linda Cole Mullis, 59, of Old Salisbury Road, Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, March 20, 2015. Born April 21, 1955 in Ashe Co., she was a daughter of Onnie and Lela Greer Cole. Linda was a generous lady who always put others needs before her own. She loved spending time with family and friends, and delighted in reading books, writing poetry, and various craft painting.

Surviving are two sisters, Gladys Norris and husband, Doug, of Boone, and Juanita Gallagher and husband, Tim, of Clemmons; niece, Devon Gallagher, of Charlotte; nephews, Scott Norris and wife, Kristina, and Steven Norris, and wife, Miranda, all of Boone, and Shaun Norris and wife, Maggie, of Erwin, TN; great-nieces and great-nephew, Hannah Grace and Cole Norris, of Boone, and Adrianna Richardson and Abagail Norris, of Erwin, TN; and uncles, Otis Greer and wife Beulah, of West Jefferson, and Earl Cole of Oxford, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 23, at 2 p.m., at the Austin and Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Mike Townsend. The family will receive friends Monday from 1 until 2 p.m., prior to services, at Austin & Barnes. Burial will follow in Hopewell Community Cemetery.

Paul “Sonny” Fletcher, 88, of Banner Elk passed away on March 19, 2015 at Cannon Memorial Hospital.

A native of Avery County, he was born Aug. 8, 1926 a son of the late James Paul and Doxie Dare Daniels Fletcher.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Sonny was a member of Banner Elk Presbyterian where he served as Deacon and Elder.

He worked as a Broadcast Salesman with General Electric, International Video Corporation, where he received Salesman of the Year, and Quantel.

Sonny enjoyed photography, woodworking, landscaping, farming, “Weather Bug”, grandchildren and trains.

Paul has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Katy Robbins Fletcher of the home; children, Edward James Fletcher and wife Sherry Pritchard Fletcher of Banner Elk; Karen Fletcher Avery and husband Judge Avery, Jr. of Plumtree, Robyn Paul Fletcher and wife Deanna Calloway Fletcher of Pineola; sister, Mollie Fletcher Rary and husband Robert Rary of Statesville; brothers, James Randall Fletcher and wife Frances Grindstaff Fletcher of Minneapolis, Galen Daniel Fletcher and wife Anne Steele Fletcher; grandchildren, Kama Avery Raymer and husband Mark Raymer of Asheville, Janna Rae Avery of Linville, Austin Judge Avery and wife Brittany Thomas Avery of Plumtree, Lorena Fletcher Stoeltzing and husband Joel Stoeltzing of Roan Mountain, Chad Christopher Goins and wife Gabrielle Goins of Lexington, SC., Monica Goins Stover and husband Joel Stover of Duncan, SC.; several extended family members, In-Laws, Nieces & Nephews.

Funeral services for Paul “Sonny” Fletcher will be conducted on Saturday March 21st at 4:00 p.m. at the Banner Elk Presbyterian Church with Rev. Feild Russell officiating. Interment will follow in the Daniels Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until the service hour.

Norman L. Osbourne, 84, of Bare Creek Access Road, Jefferson, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Norman is survived by his wife, Lucy Crepps Osbourne of the home; one daughter, Margaret Marze and husband Charles of Jefferson; two granddaughters, Amy Blevins and husband John, and Amanda Marze, all of Jefferson; one grandson, Craig Marze and wife Ly of Boone; five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, and Nathaniel Blevins, all of Jefferson, and Reina and Kyla Marze, both of Boone, and one brother, Glenn Osbourne of Cumberland, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Cecil and Mary Pillon Osbourne; one sister, Elenor Campbell, and one brother, James Osbourne.

Military graveside rites and burial for Norman L. Osbourne will be conducted Saturday afternoon, March 28, 2015, at 2:00 o’clock, at Big Ridge Cemetery in Ashe County. Officiating will be Reverend Steve Goss and Pastor Sidney Crunk.
