Mrs. Julia M. Harmon (June 2, 1946 – Dec. 4, 2015)
Mrs. Julia Mullis Harmon, age 69 of Buckeye Road, Elk Park, passed away Friday night, December 4, 2015 at Watauga Medical Center. Born June 2, 1946 in Welch, W.V., she was a daughter of the late Odell Mullis, Sr., and Mozell Bell Mullis. Julia was a homemaker and a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband David Harmon, one son, Michael Wayne Gravitt and wife Johna of Pittsburg, Penn., one sister, Iva Guill and husband Garland of Scottsburg, Va., three brothers, Richard Mullis and wife Linda and Odell Mullis and wife Diane all of Glen Allen, Va., and Gary Mullis and wife Gayle of Scottsburg, Va.
Funeral services for Mrs. Julia Mullis Harmon will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 oclock at the Flat Springs Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Bryan Miller. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Margaret Winebarger Miller (Nov. 11, 1916 – Dec. 4, 2015)
Margaret Winebarger Miller, 99, of Henry Winebarger Road, Boone, went home to be with her Lord Friday afternoon, Dec. 4, 2015, at Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation in Boone.
Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 11, 1916, in Watauga County, a daughter of the late William and Maude Proffitt Winebarger. She was a homemaker and a member of Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her children, Edith Miller, Christine Cole, Jane Holaday and husband Richard, Jeanette Huff and husband Gerald, Roy Miller, Ray Miller and wife Deloris, and one daughter-in-law, Juanita Miller, all of Boone; one sister, Lola Bowles and husband Burl of Lexington, and three sisters-in-law, Esther Winebarger of Montross, Virginia, and Lucy and Vernita Winebarger of Boone. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ward Miller; one daughter, Wanda Miller; one son, Gary Miller; two sons-in-law, Blaine Miller and Clyde Cole; one daughter-in-law, Judy Miller; one grandson, David Miller; and eight brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services for Margaret Winebarger Miller will be conducted Monday afternoon, Dec. 7, 2015, at 2:00 o’clock, at Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church. The body will lie in state, at the church, from 12:00 until 2:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Reverend Delmar James and Reverend Jerry Moretz. Burial will follow in Proffit’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday afternoon, from 12:00 until 2:00 o’clock, at the church, prior to the service.

Mrs. JoAnne Campbell (July 14, 1937 – Dec. 3, 2015)
Mrs. JoAnne Nelson Campbell, age 78, of Camp Rock Road, Boone, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2015 at her residence.
Born July 14, 1937 in Bridgetown, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Edward and Thyra Elizabeth Dixon Nelson. JoAnne was a retired Nurse Practitioner and a member of Deerfield United Methodist Church. She was a former member of Campground United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC. JoAnne enjoyed golf and volunteered as a tutor.
She is survived by her husband, Bob Campbell, one daughter, Claudia Ann Parnell of Hudson, one grandson, Brandon Scott Parnell of Dublin, and two sisters, Ruth Nelson Parker of Asheville and Maxine Nelson Pate of Newbern.
Memorial services for Mrs. JoAnne Nelson Campbell will be conducted Sunday afternoon December 6, 2015 at 3 oclock at Deerfield United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Wes Austin and Rev. James McKinney. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 oclock until 3 oclock at Deerfield United Methodist Church.

William Dale Luttrell (Aug. 25, 1941 – Dec. 2, 2015)
William Dale Luttrell, 74, of Collins Store Road, Blowing Rock, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 2, 2015.
Born August 25, 1941 in Watauga County, he was a son of William Lawrence and Faye Farmer Luttrell. After serving in the US Army during Vietnam, he returned to Blowing Rock, became a Building Contractor and established Luttrell Construction Company. Dale loved Eunice and his family.
He was an avid supporter of his sons and grandchildren’s sporting events. At home, he could be found tending his many vegetable and flower gardens. Dale was an active member of Sandy Flat Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of Deacons. He loved helping community members in need and participated in many mission trips.
Dale is survived by his wife, Eunice Tester Luttrell; four sons, William Kent Luttrell of Virginia Beach, Va., Glenn David Luttrell and friend, Lynn Miller, of Warrensville, Timothy Wayne Luttrell and fiancé, Lisa Hoots, of Yadkinville, and Bobby Dale Luttrell and wife, Melissa, of Lewisville; nine grandchildren, Amanda Shores and husband, James, Cody, Jalen, Peyton, Isiah and Felicity Luttrell, Wesley Doerfer, and Olivia and Abby Luttrell; four great-grandchildren, Grace, Emma and Chole Shore, and Jayden Luttrell; sisters, Virginia Watson of Granite Falls, Linda Davis and husband, Hayden of Lenoir, and Joy Allison and husband, Lock, of Statesville; and brother-in-law, Gwyn Hartley of Blowing Rock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Clara Hartley.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning, December 7th, at 11 o’clock, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Max West, Rev. Burl Jones and Rev. Jackson Lawley. Military graveside honors provided by the American Legion Post 130 and the Disable American Veterans Chapter 90 will follow in the Boone Fork Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock, at Austin & Barnes.

Lewis Elmer Hollars, Sr. (Sept. 20, 1945 – Dec. 1, 2015)
Lewis Elmer Hollars Sr., 70 years old, of 4984 Blowing Rock Blvd., Lenoir, NC was gathered into the arms of our loving Savior on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2015.
Lewis was welcomed into the world on Sept. 20, 1945 by Hardy Webster and Emmie Bolick Hollars of Blowing Rock. He attended Happy Valley High School and remained close to many of his classmates.
In 1966, he married his love, Shirley Verlene Rich. They were blessed to share 49 years together. During that time they were blessed with four children. He was a dedicated and hard worker of Bernhardt Furniture until his retirement in 2005.
Lewis was an excellent gardener and took great pride in growing wonderful food for his family. He also loved to hunt with his sons and enjoyed having time to enjoy the beautiful outdoors.
He was greeted in heaven by his father and mother, Webster and Emmie Hollars; sisters, Lou Ellen Hollars Shoemake and Ollie Mae Hollars; and his baby girl, Angela Sherlene Hollars. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Shirley Rich Hollars; sons, Lewis Elmer Hollars Jr. and wife Lisa of Carey’s Flat, NC and Christopher Lee Hollars and wife Sabrina of Lenoir, NC; daughter, Sharon Hollars Bolick and husband Tim of Lenoir, NC; grandchildren, Emily and Angela Hollars, Payton, Parris, and Paige Bolick, and Corey, Logan, and Ethan Carlton, and one great-grandson Anson Carlton.
His family was blessed on November 22, 2015 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and they rest assured they will meet him again on the banks of the Jordan.
The family will receive friends at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Lenoir, NC from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2015. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Harmon’s Chapel Cemetery on Rocky Knob Road, Lenoir, NC.
Services will be conducted by Preachers Lewis Hollars Jr., Brian Gragg, and Shannon Harmon.
Pallbearers will be Tim Bolick, Payton Bolick, Corey Carlton, Logan Carlton, Ethan Carlton, and David Shoemake.

Delene Campbell Szerszen (Sept. 23, 1935 – Dec. 1, 2015)
Delene Campbell Szerszen, 80, of Highway 16, South, Jefferson, daughter of the late Max and Nina Critcher Campbell, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 1, 2015, at Hillview Care Center in Todd.
Mrs. Szerszen was born September 23, 1935 in Watauga County, the daughter of the late Max and Nina Critcher Campbell. She was a retired housekeeper and a member of Union Baptist Church.
Mrs. Szerszen is survived by two sons, Randy C. Szerszen and wife Debbie of Cleveland, Ohio, and Daniel M. Szerszen and wife Sonia of Parma, Ohio; two granddaughters, Hannah and Grace Szerszen, both of Cleveland, and three grandsons, Jonathan and Luke Szerszen, both of Cleveland, and Daniel Szerszen of Parma.
Funeral services for Delene Campbell Szerszen will be conducted Saturday afternoon, December 12, 2015, at 12:00 o’clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 11:00 until 12:00 o’clock. Officiating will be Randy C. Szerszen. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

Eugene Byrd (Sept. 12, 1916 – Dec. 1, 2015)
Eugene Byrd – born 99 years ago in Black Mountain, the youngest of five children.
Always an outstanding student, he entered college at the age of fifteen. He has served as public school teacher, a football coach, a basketball coach and a Baptist minister.
Eugene was predeceased by, Jewel, his wife of 68 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Jackie, a son, Bob and his son Edward; another daughter, Judy (John) her son Jonathan (Susie) and his sons, Andrew and Thomas.

Justin Alton Anderson (July 30, 1980 – Nov. 29, 2015)
Justin Alton Anderson, 35, of Jones Drive, Boone, passed away, Sunday, Nov. 29 2015, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Justin was born July 30, 1980 in Orlando, Florida.
A family man, he was a loving husband, father and son. By occupation, he was a house painter and enjoyed carpentry and construction furniture. Justin was a faithful sports fan who faithfully follow Tarheel Basketball and Broncos Football.
Surviving are his wife, Tonya Marie Anderson; children, Colin Pitts, Anthony, Deseray and Alyssa Deiters; step-children, Michael Troiano, Brandon Brown and Raven Ward; and his parents, Sandra and Stephen Mills, all of Boone; brother, Shane Geoffrey of Orlando, Florida; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Roy and Debbie McLean of Banner Elk. Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Chesney Ward; grandmother, Audrey Vallely and uncle, Dennis Geoffrey.
Graveside services for Justin Alton Anderson will be conducted Thursday afternoon, December 3, 2015, at 2 oclock, at the Townsend Cemetery in Banner Elk, officiated by Rev. David Testerman.

Lois W. Clark, 96, of Marion passed away on Nov. 28, 2015 at her residence.
She was born October 10, 1919 in Mitchell County, NC a daughter of the late Isom and Lula Buchanan Woody.
Lois worked for Eseeola Lodge as their Bookkeeper.
She was a member of Crossnore Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, Church Clerk and Treasurer for many years.
Lois worked in the Hospital Gift Shops at both Sloop and Cannon Memorial Hospitals and was a Home Extension Club Officer. She loved her flowers and enjoyed quilting and crocheting.
Along with her parents, Lois was preceded in death by her: husband, Arvel L. Clark; one brother; five sisters.
Lois has left to cherish her memory her: daugther, Juanita Duncan and husband George of Marion; son, Roger Clark and wife Irene of Crossnore; sisters, Pauline Duncan and husband Bob of Orange Park, Fl. Kathleen Hardage and husband Jim of Ocala, Fl.; brothers, Earl Woody and wife Barbara of Dunedin, FL., Paul Woody and wife Jane of Jonesborough, TN.; 5 grandsons; 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Lois Clark will be conducted on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Crossnore Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Clark officiating. Interment will follow in the Crossnore Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services.

Funeral services for Sabrina Gay Laws will be conducted on Thursday, December 3rd, 2015 in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Elk Park Cemetery.
