Avery Sheriff Office Searches for Woman With Outstanding Warrant, Briefs on Two More Arrests

MyrockAug. 11, 2014. The Avery County Sheriff’s Office has outstanding warrants on Mary Ann Myrock, 37, of Newland, for felony breaking and entering and larceny. Anyone who has knowledge of this matter or her whereabouts is requested to call High Country Crime Stoppers at 828-737-0125 or the Avery County Sheriff’s Office at 828-733-2071.

The High Country Crime Stoppers pays cash awards on a monthly basis to callers who give information leading to an arrest, recovery of stolen property or seizure of illegal drugs.  Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous.

According to Sheriff Kevin Frye, the following people were arrested:

ACSOOn August 3, 2014, officers arrested Rachel Lee McCoury, 43, 538 Barlow Rd. in Elk Park on a fugitive warrant from Tennessee.  McCoury was wanted for promotion of methamphetamine and sale of schedule III drugs in Carter County, Tenn. McCoury was transferred to the Carter County Jail after her arrest.

On August 10, 2014, officers arrested Randy Allen Benfield, 23, 90 Echo Hollow Lane in Newland for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Officers charged Benfield after a report was made to the Avery County Sheriff’s Office on July 21, by two persons reporting the assault on Big Plumtree  Creek Road. Benfield ais being held in the Avery County Jail on a $10,000 secured bond.
