Jan. 20, 2014. On Jan. 15 at approximately 6:00 p.m., officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Old Toe River Road about an injured man at the caller’s residence. The caller reported the man was in her driveway requesting her to call 911. Responding Officers found a 16-year-old male who reported being assaulted.
The sixteen-year-old was then transported to Cannon Hospital where he was admitted for injuries sustained during the assault that began in a Christmas tree field on Belview Mountain. Officers and investigators worked late into the night following up on the investigation.
18-year-old Jamie Harris, 21-year-old Randy Fountain and a 17-year-old male have been arrested in this matter. All three are charged with second degree kidnapping and assault inflicting serious bodily injury, and all three were placed in the Avery County Jail under $75,000.00 bond. The incident is still under investigation at time of this writing and other possible charges will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office.
Also on the evening of Jan. 15 at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers of the Avery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at a gas station on U.S. 19 near Elk Park about a possible breaking and entering in progress. Responding officers found a side window that had been forced open.
Officers found footprints in the snow and were able to follow the prints into the Cranberry community. Officers confronted three male juveniles and the juveniles made admissions about the attempted break-in. Two 17-year-old males and one 16-year-old male were arrested and charged with attempted breaking and entering. Two of the juveniles were also charged with damage to real property in connection with an earlier call officers responded to about two vehicles driving on the lawn of the caller. On arrival, officers found two vehicles driven by the suspects were stuck in the lawn of the caller.
