Avery County Sheriff’s office had a busy week. Officers responded to a home on Elk River Road and spoke to Justin Dean McKinney. Officers told Mr. McKinney that they were there on a tip about drugs in the home. They asked to enter the home, and Mr. McKinney told them they could.
Upon entering they saw a glass vial on the table and Amanda Renee Fleenor came walking down the hallway. Upon informing her of the visit and asking her about the vial, Fleenor stated she didn’t know who it belonged to. Both subjects were arrested after the vial came back positive for Methamphetamine. Both were charged with one felony count of possession of methamphetamine and one misdemeanor count equipment/paraphernalia possession.
After obtaining a search warrant, officers went back to the scene, and found multiple items of paraphernalia as well as a meth lab, and other pre-cursers for making Meth. Investigating officers plan to bring additional charges of manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of precursor chemicals, and maintaing a dwelling for manufacture of meth.
On June 7, officers with the Avery County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Mountain View Correctional Facility in reference to 47-year-old Steven Wayne Widner bringing marijuana into the prison. When officers arrived they were informed Mr. Widner came into the prison and during a search of his person staff members of the Mountain View Correctional Facility located marijuana in one of his pockets.
Mr. Widner stated “he had forgotten” about the marijuana being there. Mr. Widner was arrested by Avery County Officers, jailed and charged with Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance in a prison/jail facility. He was given a $10,000 unsecured bond.
