Avery County Sheriff’s Office Arrest Young Males From Tennessee for Destruction, Meth

On July 30, Land Harbor Police and Avery County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the entrance of Land Harbor at approximately 4 p.m. about a person jumping on vehicles and smashing windshields.

Upon arrival they located 20-year-old Collis Cody Nelson of Morristown, Tenn.. During the arrest Mr. Nelson attempted to strike an officer with a closed fist. He was charged with Assault on a Government Official and simple assault.

Upon his arrest and during the booking process Mr. Nelson asked officers if they could go check on his friends due to the fact they had all been doing LSD, and he was concerned for their wellbeing.Officers responded to a residence on Richard Childress Road, and located four other subjects. Upon speaking to the subjects officers located drug paraphernalia in plain sight. Officers conducted a search and more drugs were found in the residence.

Arrested along with Nelson were 18-year-old Jorge Meraz of Morristown, Tenn., 19-year-old
Alexander Strader of Morristown, Tenn. and 18-year-old Tristen Hopkins of Russellville, Tenn. and a male subject (age 17) from Morristown, Tenn.

All were charged with Possession with intent to Manufacture/Sell and Distribute Schedule 1 Drugs, Possession with Intent to Sell/Manufacture and Distribute Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell Methamphetamine. All were lodged in the Avery County jail, and each was given a $40,000 secured bond, and a trial date of Aug. 31, 2015.
