Aug. 11, 2014. Schools in Avery County have different operation times this year because of the many buses that serve several schools, according to a release from Avery County Schools, and in order to complete the first semester before the holidays, students will go to school an extra 20 minutes each day.

ACS Bus Drivers Needed
New bus driver’s training class at Mayland Community College in Newland on Sept. 3, 4 and 5 starts at 8:30 a.m. in Room 114. No cost for class. Part time and substitute positions available at $10.71 hourly wage.
McDonald’s Yard Sale for Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte to be held 7 a.m. until on Sept. 13. “Ron” will attend from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Free and Reduced Meal Applications Available for the New School Year
Applications are now available for free and reduced meals for the 2014-2015 Avery County School Year. Interested families may pick up an application at any ACS school office or at the Board of Education. Only one application per family is necessary. Student cost for school meals this year:
Breakfast: $1.25 full price, reduced or free
Lunch:
PreK-5th grade- $2.10 full price, reduced-40¢ or free
