Nov. 12, 2013. Both Avery and Watauga County Schools are operating on a two-hour delay as of 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, Avery County Schools announced a two-hour delay for students for Wednesday, Nov. 13, because of icy conditions in the higher elevations of the county and the potential for black ice in the morning.
Faculty and staff are to report on a regular schedule if it is safe to do so, the school system announced on Tuesday.
Watauga County Schools is also operating on a two-hour delay for Wednesday. In a message on its website, Watauga County Schools noted that buses will travel regular routes, however, bus drivers may use discretion to avoid hazardous roads on their routes.
