Beloved mother and precious soul Eva Carpenter, 89 of Jonas Ridge went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 16, 2013. 

Miss Eva was a loving, generous, kind-hearted and sassy lady who never met a stranger. She loved music, especially listening to bluegrass gospel and was dearly loved and cherished by her family. She also loved going to yard sales, watching Antiques Road Show and wearing pretty clothes and jewelry. 

She was an active member of the Newland Christian Church where she was treasured. Besides all the people who will miss her sweet spirit, she will also be missed by her doggies, Baby and Little-Bit. 

Eva was preceded in death by two sons Johnny Rose and Larry Joe Rose. She was also preceded in death by her husband James Carpenter, four brothers and five sisters. 

She is survived by: two children, Danielle Rose (formally known as Daniel) of the home and Debra Jean Rose and husband Larry Cole of Morganton, NC. Also surviving are granddaughters Rinda Clark and Renee Garland both of Jonas Ridge; great grand children Oliva, Ashley and Steven Sanchez and Jeremy and Sofia Hernandez; special niece Bonnie Buchanan; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregivers; Christy Crowder (Sissy), Kaitlin Bowman, Jesse Pyatte and Leah Jones. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Barker and staff, Cannon Hospital and staff, Life Care staff, Medi Home Hospice, Burke County Hospice and Nick and Regina Daniels and the loving members of Newland Christian Church. 

Funeral services for Miss Carpenter will be held on Monday, November 18, 2013 at 8:00 pm in Grandfather Chapel at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home with Pastor Nick Daniels officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until the service hour. Interment service will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 11:00 am at Jonas Ridge Cemetery. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newland Christian Church.

Anna Lou Watson from the Frank Community went home to be with the Lord November 14 2013 from Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville after several years of declining health. Born July 1 1919 to James Brownlow and Lucinda Hicks. She was the youngest of six children. 

Along with her parents Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her first husband Jim Presnell and her second husband Guy Watson, siblings, Nancy Presnell, Iva Lee Hicks, Martin Hicks, Barney Hicks, Clinard Hicks. Two daughters, Dorothy Trivette and Emma L. Presnell. Two Grandsons Bartlett Trivett and Bradley Trivett. 

She is survived by three daughters Della Gilbert of Hickory NC, Jimmie Daniels and husband Lynn of Newland, Tamma P. Austin of Newland Son Wade Presnell (Alice) of Bryson City. Seven Grandchildren Shelia Davis (Rick) Denine Clark, Barbara Trivett, Tina Honeycutt (Gene), Tim Austin (Kylie), Heather Fields (Michael) Sarah Austin and Jarrod Presnell. Sixteen Great Grandchildren, nine great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews that she loved like they were her own. 

Anna was an active member of the Frank Presbyterian Church until her health failed her. She was a Charter Member of the Frank Volunteer Fire Department. Working was her favorite pastime. She worked at Lee’s McRae College Cafeteria and Holiday Inn, before moving to the jail in Newland where her husband was Chief Deputy Sheriff and Jailer and she cooked for a number of prisoners each day. She drove a Van for Avery County Transportation and worked several years for WAMY Community Action in Newland. Anna loved Gardening growing many vegetables and beautiful flowers. 

She enjoyed Quilting, Sewing, Cooking, Canning and Craft Fairs. Anna won many Blue Ribbons at the Avery County Fair for her canned goods and crafts until she was no longer able to participate. 

Funeral services will be on Sunday, November 17th at Reins Sturdivant Funeral home in Newland with Visitation from 12:30 – 2:00 service at 2:00 and burial immediately following at Slippery Hill Cemetery. With Rev. Hal McNeeley officiating. 

Pallbearers will be members of the Frank Volunteer Fire Department

Gene Clark, age 78, of Newland passed away on November 13, 2013 at Johnson City Medical Center. 

He was born August 8, 1935 a son of the late Elbert and Lona Coffey Clark. 

Gene worked the Avery County Schools as a Bus Driver for 17 years. He was also a Van Driver with the Avery County Senior Center and Bus Driver for the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games for several years. 

He enjoyed mechanicing on old cars (his favorites were the 1935 Ford and the 1939 Chevy), racing, gospel and bluegrass music, guns, history, watching westerns and his family. 

Along with his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his: brothers, Spencer A. Clark, Howard E. Clark, Lloyd Clark; granddaughter, Faith Elizabeth Whitesides. 

Gene has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Janvea Brewer Clark of the home; daughters, Angie Whitesides and husband David of Morganton, Marsha Hoilman and husband Tim of Spruce Pine; Rick E. Clark and fiance Angela Buchanan of Newland, Jerry A. Clark and wife Jenny of Roan Mountain; sister, Patricia “Margie” Allen and husband Harold of Valdese; brothers, Paul Dale “Dutch” Clark, Sr. and wife Esther of ELk Park, Carey Lee Clark of Hickory; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. 

Funeral services for Gene Clark will be conducted on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ in Newland with Pastor Dave Atkins officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services.
