Karyn Coughenour, D. June 23, 2013


Karyn Dianne Coughenour, age 37, of Bob Taylor Road in Newland, the Three Mile Community died Sunday, June 23, 2013 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine. 

Karyn was born on April 28, 1976 in Daytona Beach, FL and was the daughter of Ralph J. and Kathryn Friedrich Coughenour. 

Karyn is survived by her parents; Ralph and Kathryn Coughenour of Daytona Beach, FL; her daughters; Alissa and Madeline Blum of Newland; her fiancé; Kevin McClellan of Newland; her future stepsons; Jordan and Josh “Shua” McClellan of Newland; her maternal grandmother; Geraldine Friedrich of Ormond Beach, FL; her brother; Jeffery Coughenour of Daytona Beach, FL and her niece; Cassidy Coughenour of Gordonsville, VA. 

Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 5:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Crossnore with the Rev. Lander Hefner officiating. An additional service will be held in Daytona Beach, FL and will be announced later. 

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Avery County Board of Education: Karyn Coughenour Scholarship Fund. 

Edith McKnight, D. June 22, 2013

Edith (Edie) McKnight, 88, passed away peacefully at her summer home in Linville Land Harbor, North Carolina. 
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim; brother, Ralph (Charlotte) DeBlois; daughter, Dana Hansen; son, Chris (Linda) Hansen; and grandchildren, Kayla and Cody Hansen. 
Edie was an avid golfer, tennis and bridge player and a member of the Cocoa Beach Country Club. Edie enjoyed her many friends and social groups and will be remembered for her care and concern for others. She will be greatly missed by all. 
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Medi Home Hospice at PO Box 1357 Newland, NC 28657, for the wonderful care she received. 

Geraldine Thom, D. June 20, 2013

Geraldine Thom, 89, passed away on June 20, 2013 at the Life Care Center in Banner Elk. 
She was born November 23, 1923 in Franklin County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Merrill and Lena Smith Forman. She worked as a Banking Secretary. 
She leaves behind a daughter, Judy Thom and a son, Philip Thom. 

Aaron Eugene Vance Sr., D. June 17, 2013

Aaron Vance

Aaron Eugene Vance, Sr., 51, of Cherryville, NC passed away on June 17, 2013 at his residence. 
He was born August 30, 1961 in Arlington, VA. 
Aaron was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cherryville, NC and enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, model cars, was a natural born mechanic, and doing anything with his grandchildren. 
He was preceded in death by his: mother, Frances Louise Owens Vance; brother, Larry Vance. 
A loving son, father, brother and grandfather who was loved by all who he met, Aaron has left to cherish his memory his: father, Jim Vance, Jr. and wife Estelle of Crossnore, NC; sons, Aaron Vance, Jr.and wife Leanna of Kings Mountain, NC, Chris Lowery and wife Christie of Spruce Pine, NC; brothers, Jim Vance, III of Atlanta, GA, Robert Vance and wife Paula of Thomasville, NC; grandchildren, Hailey Vance, Tanner Vance, CJ Lowery, Mikey Lowery. 
Funeral services for Aaron Eugene Vance, Sr.will be conducted on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Grandfather Chapel with Rev. Lander Heafner officiating. Interment will follow in the Pyatte Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Chris Lowery, Josh Vaughn, Keith Blanton, Cory Lynn, Lewis McSwain, Jonathan Johnson. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Crossnore First Baptist Church at PO Box 370 Crossnore, NC 28616.

Clinton Mitchell, D. June 14, 2013

Clinton Mitchell, 85, of Boone, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Watauga Medical Center. He was a native of Avery County, born a son of the late Lewis and Pearl Jones Mitchell. 
No services are planned at this time.
