Myrtle Barrier, D. July 28, 2013
Myrtle Barrier, age 91, of Newland passed away on July 28, 2013 at Watauga Medical Center.
A native of Avery County, she was born March 15, 1922 a daughter of the late Stanford and Elizabeth Bennett Whittington.
She was a member of the Higher Ground Worship Center for over 70 years where she was President of the Ladies Ministry Workers and taught the Adult Sunday School Class.
Myrtle was on the Ladies Auxillary and the Ruratan Club and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed quilting and flowers.
Along with her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Barrier and 13 siblings.
Myrtle has left to cherish her memory her: daughters, Norma Jean Williams of Morganton, Della Wright and husband Robert of Hickory, Nancy Dellinger of Newland, Jewel Willis and husband Danny of Morganton; son, Avery Barrier and wife Cindy of Jonas Ridge; 9 grandchildren, 12 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Myrtle Barrier will be conducted on Wednesday, July 31st at 11:00 a.m. at the Higher Ground Church of God with Pastor Josh Earl and Pastor Cotton Ray officiating. Interment will follow in the Jonas Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 30th from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home.

Harold Vann Dellinger, D. July 26, 2013
Harold Vann Dellinger ,age 69, of Elk Park passed away on July 26, 2013 at Spruce Pine Hospital.
A native of Mitchell County, he was born February 3, 1944 a son of the late Hugh and Anna Sparks Dellinger.
He was a graduate of Western Carolina University and worked for the Employment Security Commission for 35 years. A member and Sunday School Teacher of the Elk Park Christian Church, Harold was a United States Army Veteran having served as a Sergeant in the United States Army.
Along with his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Daniel and his step mother, Edna Dellinger.
Harold has left to cherish his memory his: wife, Shelia Hicks Dellinger; sons, Ben and Ira Dellinger.
Funeral services for Harold Vann Dellinger will be conducted on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Elk Park Christian Church with Ryan Shirck officiating. Interment will follow in the Elk Park Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Pat Ray Post of the VFWThe family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the services on Monday.
Daryl Davis Jr., D. July 25, 2013
Daryl Bruce Davis Jr.,age 31, of Newland passed away on July 25, 2013 at his residence.
A native of Duval County, Florida, he was born March 16, 1982 a son of Pam Rott Davis of Newland, and the late Daryl Bruce Davis, Sr.
He was a mechanic and all around good guy. He loved to make people smile and laugh.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife, Chasiti Davis of Waycross, GA; daughters, Darah and Gabrielle Davis; brother, David E. Davis; nephew, David A. Davis; aunt, Liesse Havens.
Services will be on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 2:00 pm in the Walnut Grove Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kurt Bomar officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to help with funeral expenses.
Glenda Richardson, D. July 22, 2013
Glenda Lee Richardson, age 68, of Lake Lure passed away on Monday, July 22, 2013 at Rutherford Regional Medical Center .
She was born November 16, 1944 a daughter of the late Floyd Brownlow and Mary Edith Hughes Street.
Along with her parents, Glenda was preceded in death by her daughter, Teresa Juanita Richardson.
Glenda has left to cherish her memory her: husband, Larry Lee Richardson of the home; daughter, Gwendolyn Gail Lebonville and husband Ray of Concord; son, Kenneth Wayne Richardson and wife Barbara of Gastonia; brother, Rovert Gene Street and wife Elaine of St. Petersburg, FL.; 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services for Glenda Lee Richardson will be conducted on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Morgan Branch Church with Rev. Keith Gwyn officiating. Interment will follow in the Richardson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 pm at the Rhododendron Chapel in Roan Mountain
